The current state of discussion about transforming the former Special Subject Fields Programme into a funding of Specialized Information Services is presented. The transition is illustrated using the example of the Information Service for Media and Communication Studies of the Leipzig University Library. The paper explains the advantages of the new funding programme as well as the design of the information service and the problem areas which are yet to be mastered.
